| IKENNA - Cabaret, Travestie, Variété |
 |
| |
We are under construction and will be available again soon. !!!
No shows until further notice.
Ikenna Beney Amaechi is of the best: The drag queen artist with the impressive voice perfectly creates a sweet illusion. He has performed on stages in Las Vegas and New York, Los Angeles and Paris, Cannes and Salzburg, but always avoided his hometown Berlin —sometimes the prophet has no honor in his own country! But these times are over now:
The theater where Ikenna Beney gathers the cream of drag around him is centrally located and easy to find. It has a charming ambiance. Ikenna managed to bring together some of the best artists for this show. At Ikenna Cabaret Berlin, they capture the audience twice a day, Wednesday through Sunday (shows at 8:00 pm and 10:45 pm).
Ikenna is a dream, an illusion of a woman with a tremendous voice reminiscent of Whitney Houston. Ikenna Cabaret is a fireworks of impressive singing performance, graceful movement and radiant stage presence. Ikenna’s sister queens don’t rank behind him, such as Ireen Sue from Manila, then male, then female, impersonating Diana Ross or Michael Jackson. There's also Renata Ravel, hilariously chattering away and intoning saucy songs from time to time: Laurence Gerrard who impersonates Marlene Dietrich in a matchless live performance, perfectly reviving the unusual atmosphere of the diva’s appearances between glamorous star cult and melancholy. Brazilean queen Andressa is eye candy for both men and women. Last but not least, powerful-voiced Paula Jackson hits the stage with a superlative laser show.
These are only some of the drag stars presented by Ikenna Cabaret Berlin. New versatile and unique performers from around the world are engaged, often for a short time, to entertain the Berlin audience. It’s a sparkling, audacious and funny show —refined, but not too refined, feminine, but not too feminine, showing some naked skin, but not too much— in any case, it’s a perfect illusion and pure delight.

Martin Gropius Bau |
 |
| |
The impressive museum building was erected accordings to the plans by Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden in renaissance design as a crafts Museum. Besides, it housed several other collections until it was seriously damaged by bombs in the last weeks of WWII.
Only in 1966 it was listed as a monument worthy of preservation and in 1978 reconstructions works started, carried out respectfully by the architects Winnetou Kampmann and Ute Weström. Then the building was named after Martin Gropius, a great-uncle of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius who had long since called for the museum's reconstruction.
Today Martin-Gropius-Building is one of the most famous and beautiful exhibition spaces in Germany. It offers an adequate setting for international exhibitions of any kind. Architects Hillmer & Sattler were in charge of another refurbishment that took place in 1999/2000: Air-conditioning was installed and the Northern entrance, that had faced the Wall during 29 years, was restored as the main entrance.
Our guided walking tour "From the German Empire until today" ends in front of Martin-Gropius-Bau.
Programme until january 2009:
Art from the Tropics
12 september 2008 to 5 january 2009
Twenty years after the trailblazing show Les Magiciens de la Terre in Paris the “Art from the Tropics” exhibition in the Martin-Gropius-Bau is once again attempting to explore in troubled times the currents of energy and subtle discords between the hemispheres, to show which cultural forces are working in harmony and which in opposition to one another. The exhibition aims to create an incorruptible, crisis-resistant stock of images that permits a non-hierarchical view of the world.

National Opera Unter den Linden |
 |
| |
In 1741 Knobelsdorff, architect and friend of King Frederick the Great, build the opera house "under the lime trees" according to the wishes of the enlightened monarch and lover of the arts. Actually it was the first musical theatre ever to be built outside a palace. The opera, currently directed by Daniel Barenboim, still has an excellent international reputation and, in the 2004 ranking of a specialist magazine, won the awards for the best orchestra and best choir. Operas are performed in the original language, with subtitles in German.
Tickets available already from € 7.

Since 1968, this “temple of glass and light”, designed by Bauhaus master Mies van der Rohe and surrounded by sculptures like Henry Moore’s “Archer”, is dedicated to modern art. The exhibition comprises works of 20 th century painters like Kirchner, Klee, Dix, Dalí, Miró and others, taking the visitor on a trip through the history of classical modern art: German expressionism, cubism, surrealism, etc. There is also a sculpture garden visitors can enter on request.
The huge lower-ground floor is partly dedicated to the permanent collection, partly to the museum’s temporary exhibitions that have gained international fame.

Theater des Westens |
 |
| |
There are numerous Berlin theatres offering high quality performances in various styles. We will just cite a few that may be especially interesting to non-German-speaking visitors.
The music halls of the "Theatre of the West"enjoy a high reputation.
The pompous building, dating from 1886, is a perfect example of architecture from German imperial times.

Bar jeder Vernunft |
 |
| |
The idea of Berlin cabarets in the Roaring Twenties still lingers in many heads and some visitors hope to catch a glimpse of these legendary times.
For those who speak some German we recommend to visit one of musical entertainment shows at «Bar jeder Vernunft», in a tent-like buildings with an original interieur from early 20th century in Durch modernist style.
Still, it is not only the decoration that accounts for the charming atmosphere, but the special choice of artists, mainy German, performing here, like Georgette Dee and Geschwister Pfister, Otto Sander, Max Raabe or Berlin-adopted American Gayle Tufts.
